A Break In The Cloud

A dreary scene painted on a dismal day at Grange-Over-Sands. This isn't Grange-Over-Sands obviously but rather an impression of the weather that day which was rain, followed by showers, followed by drizzle which was then followed by some more rain!
Finally though the sky started to clear just like in the painting and the sun started to break it's way furtively through the cloud. Slightly too late to improve my mood that day but nevertheless I did get this painting as a result even though it was a bit of a fluke...
Something I talk about a lot in the workshops I teach is going with what the medium throws at you. This painting came about sort of as a result of that mentality.
I had spent a little time talking with a lovely couple. Both of them had their brollies up and unbeknown to all of us as we were talking all the water from the ladies brolly was pouring off on to my easel on which I had a piece of paper that I had just very carefully applied a wash to.
They left and I very quickly realised that the original idea I had had was a no go. The paper was completely sodden and the wash I had applied was a complete mess but rather than give up I changed plan and tried to recreate an impression of the weather that day using the mess that was now on the paper.
To say I painted this with complete abandon with absolutely no thought of ending up with anything even half decent would be an understatement!
However as so often happens in watercolour when you persist out of that mess and flurry of roughly applied brush strokes and splatter came this lovely painting. It only just dried out enough at the end of the day to allow me to apply a few sharper edged details to finish it.
Amazing what you can create with the help of a bad mood and a dribbly umbrella!

Want Your Purchase Framed?

So you have picked out the perfect image for your wall but you can’t just hang it on the wall with drawing pins can you?…No, so now you have to go and get it framed. Not only do you have to go to the hassle of finding a good framer who knows what they are doing but then you have to pick out a moulding you like and a mount to go with it. You need to pick something that is going to enhance the art but also look good in your space and then because you are only getting one frame you will pay through the nose for it!

Well here’s an idea…….

….Why not just have me frame it for you!…..FREE OF CHARGE!!

That’s right I offer a 100% FREE framing service where all you pay for is the cost of the frame itself – how cool is that?!

I use high quality light-ash wood frames that provide a neutral high quality finish that will enhance rather than detract from the artwork and will sit well in any room.  The frames are bare-faced which means if you don’t happen to like the colour of the natural wood in the frame you can change it to suit your taste with either stain, lime-wash, paint or varnish. As I purchase my frames in bulk and pass this discount on you won’t get a frame of this quality anywhere else at this price! It’s a no brainer really!

So if you have chosen an original and want it framed just choose the framed option in the options above. If you are purchasing a limited edition you can add a frame to your order by clicking the button below:
