A Shaft Of Sunlight Across Skiddaw

As an artist the most important skill that you need to develop above everything else is learning to see. By that I don't just mean looking at stuff, I mean actually seeing it properly and paying attention to the details.

So many people these days seem to walk around with their noses constantly glued to their phone screens not paying any attention to what's going on around them.  You may have run over a few of these irritating people when they walked out in front of your car!  Why anyone would want to take in the wonderful scenery of the Lake District via photoshopped oversaturated, high contrast tik-tok posts rather than by just taking their nose out of their phones for a second and looking around them I will never understand. But even here in the Lake District this terrible affliction persists. For gods sake just look up!

I find it interesting that so many people find it amazing that most of my work is painted from memory. After all why should that be amazing when all I'm  actually doing is just paying attention to what is going around me and taking it all in? This type of memory is like a muscle and like any muscle the more you use it the stronger it becomes. There is no magic it's just a case of walking out the door, seeing stuff and trying to remember it when I get the paintbrushes out.

Anyway the reason I mentioned this is because mother nature is a wonderful thing, especially when you live near the mountains.  And every now and again when you least expect it if you are paying attention she will show off a little bit and reward you with something absolutely spectacular that you will remember for years to come.

This was one such moment. I had just finished doing a market in Keswick and was walking back to the carpark and suddenly out of nowhere a shaft of light hit the top of Skiddaw and lit it up with gold. It was amazing. Here is my attempt to capture that magical moment I hope you like it.

Want Your Purchase Framed?

So you have picked out the perfect image for your wall but you can’t just hang it on the wall with drawing pins can you?…No, so now you have to go and get it framed. Not only do you have to go to the hassle of finding a good framer who knows what they are doing but then you have to pick out a moulding you like and a mount to go with it. You need to pick something that is going to enhance the art but also look good in your space and then because you are only getting one frame you will pay through the nose for it!

Well here’s an idea…….

….Why not just have me frame it for you!…..FREE OF CHARGE!!

That’s right I offer a 100% FREE framing service where all you pay for is the cost of the frame itself – how cool is that?!

I use high quality light-ash wood frames that provide a neutral high quality finish that will enhance rather than detract from the artwork and will sit well in any room.  The frames are bare-faced which means if you don’t happen to like the colour of the natural wood in the frame you can change it to suit your taste with either stain, lime-wash, paint or varnish. As I purchase my frames in bulk and pass this discount on you won’t get a frame of this quality anywhere else at this price! It’s a no brainer really!

So if you have chosen an original and want it framed just choose the framed option in the options above. If you are purchasing a limited edition you can add a frame to your order by clicking the button below:
