This painting is about Annie’s cottage. Who is Annie? Is I hear you cry well Annie is this lovely old lady who used to weave baskets that she sold every week at the local market in one of our lovely lake district towns. She however after many years of being one of the most recognised figures around the area made the decision to retire and moved out of the town to a lovely cottage up in the hills.
She can often be seen walking down the road into the local village to get her morning rolls and newspaper because although she loves the almost hermit like existence she has created for herself at the top of the hill she still likes to know what’s going on in the world and the local baker sells the most wonderful produce.
Annie’s only visitors are her daughter who comes up to help Annie in the garden and the odd walker who wants a refill for his or her water bottle. They are usually pulled into the kitchen and provided with a cup of tea and a piece of cake (also from the bakers).
I can go on like this all day you know! Sorry to disappoint but Annie is not actually a real person but could very well be any number of ladies I have met in my time in and around the lakes & Yorkshire Dales. No doubt you know an Annie too. The message I am kind of trying to put out with this painting is if you do know an Annie and you have a half hour spare why not pop up the hill and see if she is o.k - it’s good to care.
The original watercolour painting is 350mm x 250mm and is available either framed or unframed.
