Additional information

Skill Level:
What level do I need to be at to take part? – Although the class is predominantly aimed at students who wish to progress in watercolour if you can paint a basic watercolour wash you will be fine. The techniques I will show you are not difficult and can be used by anyone with a little practise.

What equipment do I need to bring? – Just you usual paints & brushes is fine – don't go out buying equipment especially for the workshop. You will find it helpful to bring along a few larger brushes if you have them. I will be supplying drawing boards and watercolour paper for you to use on the day.

Can I buy materials at the workshop? – I will have a small range of materials available for sale at a discount such as paper, brushes, paints, boards and a few other bits'n'bobs but I would still recommend that you bring along your own equipment.

Parking, Lunch & Refreshments:

Is there on-site parking? – There is ample on-site free parking for students and the room is skip and a jump from the carpark.

Will there be lunch and refreshments provided? – I will be providing everyone with tea & coffee for the duration of the workshop as I am a fellow caffeine addict. Lunch is not provided however there is a cafe/tearoom on site that sell a selection of sandwiches and light lunches & snacks where we can reserve a table. You are also more than welcome to bring your own packed lunch if you prefer.

Will we be painting outside? – This is not a plein air workshop so don't worry if the weather is a bit rubbish on the day.

Where is the venue? – The workshop will be taking place in the Coach House Loft at Brantwood House on the Eastern shore of Lake Coniston.

Are the workshops suitable for beginners?

Short answer - YES!  Although it helps if you have had  a little experience with watercolour previously i.e can take a brush, mix a bit of paint and apply to the paper (nothing too advanced).

Do I have to supply my own materials / what will I need to take part?

I will provide everyone who attends with paper and a drawing board that they can work on for the day. With regards to paints & brushes - just bring what you have.

I try to discourage people from going out and buying a load of kit for a workshop as they may never use it again. If you do want to use the same colours as me I send out a short info pack 1-2 weeks before each workshop that has all those details.

I also have a range of quality materials on sale on the day at a discount should you wish to add to your arsenal!

Can I just turn up on the day?

No due to demand all places have to be pre-booked.

Is there disabled access?

There is disabled access at Ambleside Parish Centre but not at Brantwood.

Is lunch / refreshments provided?

I provide refreshments throughout the day i.e. tea, coffee, water with a high probability of some biccies but you will have to make your own arrangements for lunch.  At Brantwood there is a cafe downstairs or you can bring a packed lunch with you. At Ambleside we have access to the kitchen so if you wish to bring along a packed lunch or a meal to reheat you can do so alternatively it is a very short walk to the nearest cafe's but please be advised Ambleside get's very busy during the summer and you may not have enough time to have a sit down meal.

Is there parking?

Yes there is parking available at both Brantwood & Ambleside Parish Centre

What do I do if I need to cancel?

Life is unpredictable so I understand that things may happen that are out of your control meaning you can no longer attend the workshop you booked.  Please contact me as soon as you know you can't attend your workshop by emailing me at: as it's possible I may be able to offer you a place on another workshop and also so that I have enough time to offer the place on the workshop you can't attend to someone else.

If none of the other dates I can offer are suitable for you I may be able to carry your booking over to the following year or alternatively I can provide you with a refund  - please note however that I can only provide a full refund if you cancel your booking at least 14 days before the workshop.

How About Learning At Home?

I’m not saying don’t take a workshop because well lets face it there is nothing quite like spending the day with a bunch of like-minded people having fun and learning some new skills but if you are maybe looking for something a little more in depth then why not consider my watercolour academy. The academy is free to join and will open up access to a host of new learning opportunities including my 12 week Watercolour Landscape Mastery course & my 6 week Watercolour Seascape Mastery course plus individual workshops and lessons. By joining my watercolour academy you also automatically become a member of my VIP Artists club which means every month (roughly) you will receive the latest news from the studio including information on any new lessons added to the academy plus some very special offers I reserve just for my VIP’s.

Sound interesting?…Just click on the image below to be taken to the academy home page.
