Break In The Clouds Over Grasmere

This is a painting based on a view I see almost every week around the fells of Grasmere looking across from the main road to Helm Crag and Steel Fell.

During the Summer (*) Grasmere lives up to its name which is believed to derive from the Norse for grass lake or lake surrounded by grass.

There's a lot of that green stuff around and as any self-respecting artist or photographer knows it can although beautiful be visually boring when it comes to capturing the scene. Green grass, green trees, green, green everywhere!!!

That said though every now and again on a stormy day when a shaft of bright sunlight hits the side of the fells in that area you get a magical moment where that greens comes into it's own and gives you something spectacular! This was one such day!

(* Summer [Definition] - Refers collectively to those mysterious unsettling periods of time where it briefly stops raining sometimes for longer than 24 hours. Occasionally accompanied by a slight increase in temperature, an increase in midgees and the aroma of burnt steak or sausages. Predicted to happen sometime between May and August when most of us are at work. On very special years when the planets are aligned this phenomenon can be witnessed on a weekend or even a bank holiday although this is very, very rare)

I offer worldwide shipping using tracked services from a range of carefully selected couriers.  If you are lucky enough to live here in the U.K and spend over £30 I'll also give you FREE delivery!

The original watercolour painting is approx 510mm x 360mm and is available either framed or unframed.
