On the main weekend of the common riding celebrations in border towns there is a palpable air of anticipation in the air on that first morning while everyone is making there way to the first point of the celebration wherever that may be.
In my hometown of Hawick this is the “Snuffing” which is held at 6.00am at Towerdykeside when snuff is dispensed from an old horned mull amid much jostling and pushing after which everyone goes to the pub for a traditional rum’n’milk – yes the pubs are open at 6.00am in the morning!
The original watercolour painting is 490mm x 695mm and is available either framed or unframed.
