One of my earliest walking memories is of a day spent in Dovedale hopping across the stepping stones at the start of the dale then on along the path on the banks of the River Dove towards Mill dale. The walk is full of little scenic pit stops and Lion Rock is one of them. What makes Lion Rock so special is the fact that depending on which way you are walking you can walk by it and not even realise it’s there.
Style wise this was a bit of an experiment for me and I used some very bright colours I wouldn’t normally use to give the painting a sort of fantasy feel but not so much that it was not recognisable as an actual landscape. I love the result!
The original watercolour painting is 400mm x 590mm and is available either framed or unframed.
