Bolsover castle has stood in its current form since the 17th century but is actually built on the site of a much older 12th century castle.
So, with this much history it would be rude not too paint it. However I have always been very aware of the fact that paintings of castles can end up looking a little Disney like in appearance. There is nothing wrong with this in principle but lets face it – that’s not exactly what you expect from me!
After much head scratching I had the idea of setting it in a misty landscape this way the castle is still the focal point but I didn’t have to be bothered about painting lots of towers & turrets and definitely no princesses! I like the result – hope you do too.
The original watercolour painting is 640mm x 460mm and is available either framed or unframed.
