I am not sure if there were ever smugglers used the little coastal village of Rampside but if you have ever been there it is not hard to imagine that this may have been the case.
This painting is very much about atmosphere and is an imaginary scene based on a bunch of smugglers hurriedly trying to get of the beach before the sun rises after a stormy night at sea.
The original watercolour painting is 700mm x 500mm and is available either framed or unframed.
