The Falls - Malham Cove, Yorkshire Dales
This painting is a celebration of a momentous event. It may seem like a strange thing to celebrate a storm that caused chaos across the region but nevertheless it was storm Desmond that caused a very special thing to happen in Yorkshire back in 2015.
Malham Cove in the Yorkshire Dales national park is usually dry as water flows through cracks and gullies above? to its foot before reaching the cliff edge however due to storm Desmond and unprecedented levels of rain?the water systems were so full it flowed along what has been known as Dry Valley and straight over the top of the cove.
This created a waterfall with an 80m (260ft) drop which was about two-and-a-half times bigger than England’s usual record holder, Hardraw Force which is also in the Yorkshire Dales.
This event has only been recorded as happening once in living memory so it was indeed a very special thing and if you were lucky enough to see it in the flash then it will be a memory you will treasure for the rest of your life as it is unlikely you will see it again. For those of us who were not as lucky hopefully you will find this painting a good substitute.
The original watercolour painting is 360mm x 480mm and is available either framed or unframed.
