The Final Stretch - Catbells

Catbells is a firm favourite for many hill walkers as it is an easy ascent suitable for all levels and as a result is very often the 1st mountain many tick off.

The great Alfred Wainwright put it well when he said...

"It is one of the great favourites, a family fell where grandmothers and infants can climb the heights together, a place beloved. Its popularity is well deserved: its shapely topknott attracts the eye offering a steep but obviously simple scramble."

This popularity also makes it a very popular subject for local artists and as such Catbell's is one of those Lake District mountains that has been done to death (a bit like the path up in some places 🤣). The vast majority of paintings depict the view from the same viewpoints i.e from the lake shore at Keswick or from Friars crag.

I always try where possible to provide a different take on things and not just do the obvious so this painting provides a slightly different perspective showing the view from the first false summit you ascend looking across to the true summit which as many of you will know there is usually a queue for on a good day during the summer.

If you look very, very closely you will see I have included a collection of people on the summit to make it authentic but not quite enough to turn the stomachs of you die hard hillwalkers out there who prefer the solitude that hillwalking can provide.

If you like this and would like a lasting memory of your trip up the bells then the original painting as well as limited editions in a range of sizes are now available to purchase on the website. I offer shipping worldwide and if you live here in the U.K and spend over £25 I'll give you free tracked delivery!

The original watercolour painting is approx 510mm x 360mm and is available either framed or unframed.

Want Your Purchase Framed?

So you have picked out the perfect image for your wall but you can’t just hang it on the wall with drawing pins can you?…No, so now you have to go and get it framed. Not only do you have to go to the hassle of finding a good framer who knows what they are doing but then you have to pick out a moulding you like and a mount to go with it. You need to pick something that is going to enhance the art but also look good in your space and then because you are only getting one frame you will pay through the nose for it!

Well here’s an idea…….

….Why not just have me frame it for you!…..FREE OF CHARGE!!

That’s right I offer a 100% FREE framing service where all you pay for is the cost of the frame itself – how cool is that?!

I use high quality light-ash wood frames that provide a neutral high quality finish that will enhance rather than detract from the artwork and will sit well in any room.  The frames are bare-faced which means if you don’t happen to like the colour of the natural wood in the frame you can change it to suit your taste with either stain, lime-wash, paint or varnish. As I purchase my frames in bulk and pass this discount on you won’t get a frame of this quality anywhere else at this price! It’s a no brainer really!

So if you have chosen an original and want it framed just choose the framed option in the options above. If you are purchasing a limited edition you can add a frame to your order by clicking the button below:
