Every walker has their favourite littl'uns. You know the tiddler fells that you keep for those days when you know you need to get out and do something but really can't be bothered to lug your failing body up one of the biggies.  Well Lingmoor Fell (sometimes known as Brown How) that sits between Great Langdale & Little Langdale is one of my favourite littl'uns.

The fells name actually originates from the Old Norse word lyng meaning “heather covered” and anyone who has been up on Lingmoor around August will agree it is aptly named.

One of the main reasons besides the Heather show that I love this little fell is the magical subsidiary fell Side Pike which you can see in the painting which provides a fantastic little scramble which you can actually access from the top of the pass if you're feeling particularly lazy. It is actually the first Lake District scramble that I took my boys on and remains a firm favourite with us all to this day.

Standing at just 469 m (1,540 ft) it maybe doesn't have the height of some of its higher neighbours across the valley but more than makes up for that in character and the views it presents are fantastic! If you haven't been up there why not give it a shot - maybe it'll become one of your favourite littl'uns.
