Jacks Rake on Pavey Ark in the Langdale Pikes is a fantastic little scramble that definitely creates a strong impression on those who make the extra effort to partake. Cutting across the crag it has height, exposure, drama and fantastic views not only from the top but also on the way up.
That said it can actually be quite an imposing undertaking if you are new to the game thus the overly dramatic portrayal you see here in the painting - couldn't resist!
In spite of its imposing stature though it is still very often a first time scramble for many lake district walkers.
I love this route and although there are many others out there that are more testing I think this will always remain a strong favourite of mine because it's just great fun!
