White Arrow Left Down

Across The Mudflats - Video On Demand Watercolour Workshop

Mudflats, Marshes & Coastal Estuaries provide the artist with innumerable opportunities to paint. Not only are these areas packed full of life and vibrancy but they also provide those who like to indulge in a little plein-air painting with a quiet spot to hone their craft without the usual interruptions that painting by the sea can present.

You know the sort of things - being blown of the cliffs, having some kid dribble their ice cream all over your brushes, having seagulls poop on your head and in your painting water (yep that has happened to me before!), having countless people telling you that they have an auntie that paints and so on.

Nope here (usually) it’s just you and nature and contrary to what some might believe these are fantastic areas to paint - here are a few little techniques that might help you with your portrayal of these hidden oasis’s of calm.

Every workshop comes with 24-7 ONLINE LIFETIME ACCESS and can be viewed on basically any device that has an internet connection from your mobile phone right up to your smart T.V.

I want everyone who takes the workshop to be happy so I provide a full 14-day money back guarantee.

If for any reason you are not happy with the workshop you have purchased please get in touch by email to: as I would like the chance to resolve any issues first.

If for any reason I can’t resolve your issue I will happily provide a full refund back to your method of payment.  (Please note refunds can take between 3-10 days to process depending on the payment method used.)

First of all for these workshops you will need your eyes & ears I always encourage students to watch the workshop first and then have a go because I record most of these workshops in just one take so any mistakes or adjustments I may make to get to the final painting are included - this way you learn more.

More importantly though I always encourage students who are new to me to approach these workshops with an open mind!

While I always try to encourage students to use their own materials I know that some of you prefer to use the same as the tutor as it is one less thing to think about. Especially when you may be trying out some new techniques. So below you will find a complete list of the materials I used to produce the painting in this workshop:

1 x Sheet of Watercolour Paper (I used Bockingford 425gsm ROUGH 1/4 Imperial [38 x 28cm])

If you need to you can purchase paper directly from me here:

I use Daniel Smith extra fine watercolours as quite frankly they are in my opinion the best on the planet however I know that some of you may not have access to these so where appropriate I have included a substitute colour that may be more readily available to you.

Suggested Colours: Naples Yellow, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Carbazole Violet (sub’ Winsor or Dioxazine Violet), Paynes Grey, Indigo, Lavender, Green Apatite Genuine, Green Gold, Bloodstone

If you fancy getting yourself a few tubes of these fantastic watercolours you can find the colours I use here:

All of my brushes are made by Rosemary Brush Co who hand-make some of the finest brushes in the world. Below you will find a list of the ones I have used for this particular workshop.

  • Squirrel Hair Mop (Size 6 & 16)
  • 1/2″ Hog Hair Flat Brush
